24 JanLove on Four Legs

It was Boxing Day and we were headed to my parents house in Sarnia. Every Christmas my family gets together to watch the Canadians in the World Junior Hockey Tournament. When we arrived, my dog Boomer greeted us at the car in a mini-tuxedo.

We were all gathered in the living room when my boyfriend, Jon, said that he had some treats for Boomer. When he called Boomer to go upstairs with him my mom knew what his plan was because Jon had taken them out for lunch to ask for permission to marry me. My mom kept me busy downstairs until Boomer came back down. Still wearing his tuxedo and now carrying a ring around his neck, Boomer came to sit on my lap. I asked Jon where the treats were. I turned Boomer around so he was looking at me and it was then that I saw the ring. Jon took it off the string and said “Ashley, you’re the love of my life. You’re my best friend and I can’t imagine spending my life without you. Will you marry me?” I was crying but of course I said YES!

I looked over to my left and my brother, Scott, was already texting his friends the news. I looked to my right and my Mom and Grandpa were crying. It was such a great moment to share with my family and it was very unexpected. It’s a moment that I will never forget for the rest of my life.
